Daehak-ro Chinese Food: A Head-Scratcher
Hello, this is Bearppu🐻
Lately, I’ve been really craving Chinese food, so while we were on a date in Daehangno,
we decided to look for a Chinese restaurant!
We visited a Chinese restaurant near Hyehwa Station
called ‘Gyauttung’😆
I was immediately drawn to it because of its incredibly cute and unique name. It’s conveniently located on the main street of Daehangno, just a short walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 3.

The sign stood out even from a distance! True to its name, the tilted letters were so adorable 🤭. The entrance was uniquely circular.

I’m thrilled to hear about the 1,000 won weekday lunch discount promotion! If I get the chance, I definitely want to make sure I visit at the right time. 🥰

Upon stepping into Gyawoottung, you’re immediately enveloped in an evocative atmosphere that feels as if a Hong Kong streetscape has been perfectly recreated. And I’m incredibly excited for the dishes prepared by the chef, who comes from a hotel kitchen background! 🍽️

The interior was surprisingly spacious, and with ample space between tables, you can enjoy a wonderfully comfortable meal. Everything, from the clean interior to the atmospheric lighting, was just perfect for me! ❤️

This is where we sat.
The wallpaper had such a lovely aesthetic, and it was great that the shop was comfortably cool!

Here’s the menu! 🍀
The menu offered a diverse selection of dim sum, noodle, and rice dishes.
What’s more, they even offer a wide range of Chinese alcoholic beverages! ♡ Perfect for those who enjoy a drink, right? 🍻
At the next table, I saw people enjoying Macaron Menbosha (4 pieces) and Mapo Tofu, and they looked so mouth-watering! 👍
It’s a heatwave and absolutely scorching, so I immediately ordered a Zero Coke!
I picked out two dishes! It’s one main dish and Jjajangmyeon! ⭐️
Guobarou (Domestically Sourced Pork) | 24.0
I debated for a while between this and Gochu Yurim-gi, but ultimately chose Guobarou because I hadn’t had it in ages and was really craving it.
Just look at that crispy exterior! 💕
Served on such a vibrant and beautiful plate, it looked even more appetizing.
Guobarou, featuring deep-fried pork sirloin topped with a sweet sauce, was a particularly signature dish at Gyawooddung. 💙

The sauce was sweet and slightly sour, and it was incredibly delicious. When I picked it up with tongs, I could tell right away that it was perfectly crispy!
A quick snip with the scissors reveals a juicy cross-section of meat. The pork felt incredibly tender, as if it had been perfectly steamed – a definite thumbs-up! 👍 And even while cutting, you could hear that satisfying crisp sound! 🤤

The crispy exterior, the tender and chewy interior, and the succulent sirloin were absolutely divine! 💓 The sauce flavor also perfectly complemented the meat, which was incredibly impressive.

So, I cut it all up with scissors before eating it.
The ‘crispy on the outside, tender on the inside’ here is no joke!
Hands down, a fantastic Guobaorou spot! 🌟

Samseon Ganjajang 9.8
This was my choice after a lot of deliberation, as I was torn between this and Palbo Jajangmyeon (for 2 people).
I’m generally a fan of Ganjajang, but what really caught my eye here was the stir-fried seafood topping, which made it look even more appetizing.
Just look at all the plump, succulent shrimp in there! 🎀
I absolutely loved the wonderfully chewy and springy noodles. When you toss them well with the savory sauce, they take on a rich, glossy, and utterly appetizing appearance! 🧡

Even after some time passed while I was busy taking various photos, the noodles were still delightfully chewy. Jajangmyeon that doesn’t get soggy was absolutely my style! 💘
When you take a bite of it, loaded with shrimp, onions, and meat, it’s a taste that brings pure bliss 💟. This place will surely come to mind whenever I crave Ganjajang.
I even tried it with some vegetables! 😁
It was my first time having Samseon Ganjjajang, but its rich, roasted flavor was never tiresome, and I was thoroughly satisfied.
I’ve filmed a more detailed look at the food I ate. Guobaro and Jajang together? Need I say more? 😉
We completely polished it off, not a single crumb left! 😂 It was the perfect portion for the two of us. 💚
When I asked an employee, they told me the store’s name comes from the gesture people in China make – a slight head tilt – when food is incredibly delicious. How adorable!
If you have plans near Daehak-ro, this place is absolutely perfect for a date, a company dinner, or any kind of group gathering. It boasts a wonderful atmosphere and the food is simply unbeatable 💜. Highly recommend it for days you’re craving Chinese food!!
And with that, I’ll wrap up this review and be off in search of my next delicious find! 👋
